B l a c k b i r d

I was a child
when I dreamt of the blackbird
his sheltering wings
spanning my childhood
he taught me how to fly
showed me the heavens
so I would believe
and then he was gone
 

planets progressed
and so did my wish
to share my love
desires so loud
the universe answered
 

from the east
the winds whispered like a gypsy soul
Love awaits you in ebony wings
 

and falling upon my heart
was a lone black plume
so dark
like the doorway of death
and so committed
like death itself
